34,000 hybrid reasons for pause
The technologically impressive Ford Fusion hybrid. I’ve been dying to get my hands on December’s auto sales to help me through my holiday hangover. I guess I’m not the only one a little off as most automakers have yet to report their numbers.
Yet, how exciting can the numbers really be? If you remove the sales data for the Toyota Prius, the numbers are depressing.

Toyota Prius: top-selling car in Japan last year – first time hybrid clinches spot
The Toyota Prius was the top-selling car in Japan last year – the first time a gas-electric hybrid has clinched that spot.
The Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Friday that Toyota Motor Corp.’s Prius was No. 1 in its ranking of sales by vehicle models – with 208,876 Prius cars sold in 2009, nearly three times the numbers sold the previous year.
